Copied from SMFE, This guide will cover several areas of hacking.

Basic Set-up
Stage Textures
Character Textures
Music Hacks
Other Random Things

Basic Set-up

You must already have the Homebrew Channel. Look up how to get it on google (or youtube) and follow those instructions yourself. I am not allowed to tell you how to do so here, but I assure you it's perfectly legal. The only problem is it might brick your wii and it will void your warranty. So you need to get Gecko OS and put it in the apps folder of your SD card. If you don't already have an apps folder then make it. This folder has to be right in the root of your SD card, meaning E:/apps/gecko. (or whatever letter)

Gecko will come with a folder that includes boot.elf, meta.xml, and icon.png. The folder that contains those three files goes inside the apps folder. Name doesn't matter, but I would just call it gecko or whatever it came with.

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Ocarina#Instructions

The Download is on that page, near the top on the right. Next you'll need the codes to be read by Gecko. These are in a file that must be named RSBE01.gct if you have the north american version of the game. I believe the PAL version is RSBP01.gct and the Japanese is RSBJ01.gct (PAL is Europe and Australia).

RSBE01.gct

Here's your download link for my personal .gct file, it includes most of the stuff that you'll want and NO GAME MODIFYING CODES. Even something as simple as a no tripping code will screw you up if you play over wifi, since the codes only affect your game, not your opponents. Basically, when one of you trips, you won't see it happening and your two games will desynch. If you want game editing codes you'll have to make your own .gct file, which I'll explain later.

To actually use these codes, put them in a codes folder in the root of your SD card. The folder actually has to be named 'codes'. Nothing else will work. My .gct file includes:

-Colourful shields
-File replacement (required for textures or any file related hacks)
-Custom CSS
-Infinite Replay Length
-Tags in Replays
-Unlimited Camera
-Alternate Stage Loader (loads random textures for stages that have multiple)
-Rumble Falls is Wifi waiting room (no sandbag)
-And many more!

You'll also want gameconfig.txt in the root of your SD card, which allows you to use more codes than usual.

Now you have all the required items for texture hacking of all sorts. You just need files. Might I suggest going to BRAWL VAULT for all of your hacking needs.

Stage Textures

If you would like my stage textures (which there are a lot of) you can download them HERE. It's a really large zip file, so download if you have time. There are textures for most stages, and multiple textures for quite a few stages. Multiple textures are selected randomly thanks to a code in my .gct file, however if you don't want to load multiple stage textures for any given stage, you'll have to set up your own GCT file and set up your own melee folder.

By the way, none of the textures were made by me, so credits go to their respective creators.

Where does this 'melee' folder go? This is Brawl after all. Well, it's actually a somewhat complicated path, and it MUST be exact or your textures won't work.. Make sure that your SD card is set up like this:

root/private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/stage/melee

All of your stage files (.pac) will go inside the melee folder, NOT JUST THE STAGES THAT ARE FROM MELEE. Each stage has to have a specific name, you cannot just give the file any name. Here's the list of names you must use: (copied from smash world forums)

You'll notice that some of the stages in my melee folder include _A or _B or something after the stage name. That is thanks to the alternate stage loader code made by Dantarion. For stages with multiple textures, if you pre-set how many different stages you have (via codes in the .gct file) and the game randomly loads one, so you need the _X if there are more than one. If you're going to make your own .gct and use different textures than me, don't use the _X. If you want to add even more stage textures to the ones I have, just adding the next letter won't work, so consult me or this thread.

Character Textures

If you want my character textures, too bad. It's not worth it for me to make a download link containing all of my textures since it's incomplete and doesn't have a full set of selection portraits. You're better off learning how to do something yourself anyways :P. I suggest Brawl Vault that I linked to earlier, since it has at least 10 textures for every character.

To set up your textures, you have to put textures in a specific location as well. These ones are .pcs, although there is a .pac file as well it is only required for transforming characters (Zelda/Shiek, Samus/ZSS, Bowser, Wario, Pokemon Trainer). Your directory should be set up like so:

private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/fighter/'fighter name'

where you see 'fighter name', make an individual folder for each character you have a texture for. The folders must be named a specific thing for each character, and those names are listed here:

[code2=Fighter folder names]Captain Falcon: captain
King Dedede: dedede
Diddy Kong: diddy
Donkey Kong: donkey

Each texture should look something along the lines of 'fitcaptain02.pcs'. This texture would go in the captain folder, and it would replace Captain Falcon's second outfit. Which outfit is which? Well, here's your handy guide: (again copied from smash world forums)

That should be all you need to know for that. Know that this will NOT affect their picture on the character select screen, only in game. If you want to edit CSPs (character selection portaits) you need to edit a file called 'common5.pac', which I will not get into now.

Music Hacks

If you want your own music files, you have to put your files in a certain location of your SD card.

root\private\wii\app\RSBE\pf\sound\strm

All of your music files go inside the strm folder, however they must have a specific filename based on which song you wish to replace. Here's yet another list that I copied from smash world forums.

Changing the titles of the song that you see in game requires using Brawlbox, so if anybody would like me to write up a guide on how to do that, ask me later :P .

If you want to find songs to use, they must be in .brstm format. You can find a bunch Here (Read description)
